The best gastronomic festivals of October in Galicia

Seafood Festival in O Grove (From the 5 to the 15 of October)

This holiday of National Tourist Interest arrives this year to its fifty-fourth edition. Over ten days, products such as oysters, octopus or scallops will be served, which can be accompanied with wine Rías Baixas denomination of origin. The tastings will be combined every day with musical performances, which will start at 10:00 p.m. The stage will include artists like The Funkles, Morcheeba or Delafé. This celebration, which was born in the sixties of last century, managed to become the gastronomic-cultural emblem of the Rías Baixas, to the point where each year an average of 200,000 visitors can be gathered.

Festival of the harvest in Viana do Bolo (October 14)

The municipality of Viana do Bolo, very close to the border with Portugal, celebrates eleven editions celebrating its particular commemoration of the harvest of the vintage. To this end, it organizes a route through the cellars of the place where the diners will be able to taste pinchos and broths typical to the sound of the music of bands of traditional music.

Tasting days of beef in Allariz (From September 29 to October 15)

Until the equator of October, the table will be presided over by the Ox. Around a dozen establishments of this Ourense municipality will prepare for 15 days different recipes that will be included, not only in their menus, but also in a tapas contest. In these days, which reached its sixth edition in 2017, they are characterized by having an ox raised in the local mountains of Penamá. For this occasion will be available three thousand kilos of product.

Feast of San Froilán, in Lugo (From 4 to 12 October)

The festival dedicated to the patron saint of Lugo is one of the most famous celebrations in Galicia. The gastronomy, the music and the craftsmanship flood the Roman city and give the starting signal to the autumnal festivities. Among the gastronomic offer, stand out the traditional octopus huts present at the fair, although there are already many establishments in the city that offer dishes of the most famous cephalopod of Galicia during those days, so that no one is left without tasting it. The octopus can be tasted in its modality “á feira”, seasoned with paprika and olive oil. This year, both inside and outside the Roman Wall, World Heritage Site, different musical activities will be celebrated, such as the Los Secretos group concert on 12 October at 20.00 hours, as well as exhibitions of antiques or free tastings of Typical products.

Potato festival in Vilar de Barrio (October 8)

The ode of the municipality of Ourense Vilar de Barrio to the tuber, will be preceded in this edition by a festival of German beer to be held the day before, coinciding with the Oktoberfest. On October 8th, activities will start at noon with a popular meal in which you can taste products like empanada, meat and potatoes. There will also be the traditional gastronomic events, which date back to the mid-seventies. Among others, there will be cash prizes for categories such as the largest potato, or the rarest.

Snail Festival, in Cotobad (October 8)

Santa María de Sacos, a parish of the Pontevedra town of Cotobad, will host the seventh edition of a gastronomic festivity in which the snail is served in different ways: stew, La Rioja and even empanada. The party will begin at 11.00 with the beginning of the tasting of the snail portions, accompanied by bread, wine or water. Besides the snail, the attendants will be able to taste other type of typical dishes like the corns or the barbecue.
