Upcoming cultural events in Galicia

The months of September and October mark the beginning of a new season in many of the most important artistic disciplines. The main Galician cities will host this fall a lot of cultural events aimed at all audiences, from students to family. In Five Sensations we make a selection of the most outstanding programmes of the new season.

Festival Premios Martín Códax da Música 2015

The Galician music lovers can not miss one of the most prestigious festivals in our territory since its birth in 2013. This coming weekend, from the 15th to the 17th October, will be held the Martin Codax Awards Festival, which are awarded in order to officially recognize the Galician musical diversity. Entry to the concert is free and the attendees will enjoy the performances of Galician bands like Wöyza, Sumrrá or Subrosa.


¡Chist! Antología de Les Luthiers 
Those who already know the path of Les Luthiers will not miss their show Christ!, with which the Auditorium Congress Palace Mar de Vigo will be filled by humour and music at 21:00 hours on 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 October. Those who are unaware of the savoir-faire of this Argentine quintet will enjoy with Christ! a review of the most acclaimed works of this group throughout their 48 year career.


“Voces” de Sara Baras
The flamenco dancer Sara Baras is responsible for directing the show “Voces”, where flamenco songs and dances evoke the life and work of some of the leading figures of this musical style. The Palacio de Congresos Auditorio Mar de Vigo will host next October 31 at 20:30, an original tribute to artists as Camarón de la Isla or Paco de Lucia which has already garnered a great success in countries such as Paris or EE. UU.


Amigos ata a morte
Xose A. Touriñán, Ledicia Sola and David Amor star in an eccentric comedy about friendship and love that will land in the Taetro Principal of Pontevedra the 15th and 16th October at 20:30. Amigos ata a morte, a play directed by Javier Veiga, shows tangles that occur in each love triangle from a humorous perspective.


Festival Cineuropa
The most acclaimed film event in Galicia will arrive in Santiago next November. The Cineuropa Festival, which celebrates its twenty-ninth edition this year, will begin on November 6 and run until 28 March. In the absence, so far, of an official program, it has been confirmed in previous years the huge influx of audience and quality of European films that are projected in different halls during the event. As usual, the festival will honor the careers of two professionals of cinema. This time, the elected are the Mexican filmmaker Arturo Ripstein and Portuguese director Miguel Gomes. Cineuropa will complement their programming with concerts and other artistic activities.


Una noche con Enrique San Francisco
One of the most irreverent comedians on the national scene, Quique San Francisco, will go up to the stage of the Auditorio Municipal of Ourense at 22:00 hours on November 6. He will do it to present a selection of their best monologues on everyday life, something for which will feature the Galician monologuist Denny Horror.


Panorama Kids
The renowned Orchestra Panorama will arrive on the Gustavo Freire Municipal Auditorium of Lugo on December 11 with a musical specially designed for the children’s amusement. The performance will begin at 18:00 and will show impressive acrobatics and colorful choreographies.


Soprano Mariella Devia con la Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia
The baton of José Miguel Pérez Sierra direct, on December 5 at 20:00, the Symphony Orchestra of Galicia while chords blend with the spectacular voice of Italian soprano Mariella Devia. The Opera House Coruna host a show that will not leave indifferent lovers of this genre. Not surprisingly, they will stage some of the most recognizable scenes of authors like Bellini or Donizetti.


Don Juan Tenorio en femenino
The title of this play is shocking for those who know, to a greater or lesser depth, the adventures of Don Juan Tenorio, the most famous character of Zorrilla often branded a misogynist. The Colón Theatre of Coruña will host on 30 and 31 October at 20:30 hours, a curious adaptation of one of the most important works of Spanish literature.


Coro y Orquesta del Teatro de Ópera nacional de Moldavia
The Teatro Principal of Ourense will host next November 8 at 19:00 a Lyric Gala that will delight all fans of opera. The orchestra of the National Opera of Moldova will perform plays as famous as Madame Buttefly, La Traviata or The Barber of Seville.
